Introduction

The first thing to consider when designing a WordPress theme is to think about the layout of site. Who is it for, why do they need it, how many columns, what colours? For this tutorial, I will be working on something to give away for free on this site ( a sort of follow-up to the series). I cant decide on your design, so you will have to get all of these beforehand. (more…)

Design a WordPress 2.7 Theme

Ok so I’m a fan of tutorials that show you step by step as to how to accomplish something. One of my favourites, and one that has helped me in my quest in becoming a Web Designer is WPDesigners.com’s – So you want to create WordPress themes huh?. It was so detailed and informative, but sadly that was 2007, and now it’s time for a refresh.

Seeing as he doesn’t seem to be doing so, I thought I might give it a shot. This is an extremely ambitious series of posts, as this is a fairly new blog, from a fairly new blogger/web designer. So please, don’t treat my words as gospel, and always strive for improvement. I shall be doing these posts every two -three days so please stick around. If you have any trouble you can find me here (more…)

Longest week of First Year

students

As some of you might know, I am 6 months into my 4 year course in Tipperary Institute. In those six months I’ve never been so busy as I am this following week.

So far this week, I have

  • Exam on Computer Operating Systems and Architecture for Multimedia Technology
  • A project due to hand-up on Wednesday delivering a JavaScript-based game of Tic-Tac-Toe. None of us have this done.
  • I also have a web development assignment to get stuck into
  • A take home assignment on Lecture 1- 8 of Multimedia Technology
  • I have to have a storyboard drawn of an animation that touches on the environment topic.
  • And I have to study a piece of animation and talk about how the 12 principles of animation are used in it.

Such a looong week! I’ll manage (I hope)

#alanshair

Late tonight, we Irish made history for the second time in one day. Not an easy feat to do, and hard to find something as impressive (if not more impressive) than winning the Grand Slam for the first time in 61 years. But we managed it, and all with the help of #alanshair

Alanshair is basically a social experiment to see if a group of people can trend a certain topic, #alanshair, on the popular social networking site, Twitter. Trending is the phrase given to the idea of making somerthing popular on Twitter. The difference between this  and any other trended topic, is that this was random, not used for an event or occasion. But in a sense, we created this out of nothing and so it has become an occasion in its own right. This was set up by @TheJamesFoley out of either boredom, fascination or both.

So what is #alanshair? Well its Alan’s hair of course. Yes we chose @alancostello as our subject. I’m not entirely sure if he gave his blessing on the matter, but hey its beyond his control now! Basically after @TheJamesFoley tweeted, we just started tweeting about #alanshair.

In less than an hour we got this result.

trended

Pretty cool huh? I’ve never been that trendy!

Alan himself, had this to say on the events that are unfolding right now. So if you want to have your say.
So did James Foley, the guy who started this fun fiasco.
